MTV quickly renewed his fantasy drama Teen Wolf due to the show becoming the cable outlet’s highest-rated new series in two years in the 12-34 demographic in its first seven episodes. Posey’s career ascent continued with Variety reporting on his landing a lead role in the upcoming indie film White Frog. ![]() The action/adventure film first became popular with weekly Saturday serials, running in installments that often had 'cliff-hanging' endings to entice viewers to return for the next show. Heroine Pearl White in the 20-episode The Perils of Pauline (1914) was the first major super-star of the silent serials. Besides Pearl White, there were other queens of the sound serials, including Kay Aldridge (as jungle Queen Nyoka in Nyoka and the Tigermen (1942)) and Linda Stirling (in the 12 part serial Zorro's Black Whip (1944) and as the "Tiger Woman" in another 12-episode serial, Perils of the Darkest Jungle (1944)). ![]() However, the pacifist mood began to change and the eventual US entry into the war in April of 1917 provided Hollywood with one of its greatest sources of plots - and profits. This was evidenced by the new hit song of the time, George M. Cohan's Over There (1917): "Johnny get your gun, get your gun, get your gun, Johnny, show the "Hun" you're a son-of-a-gun, Hoist the flag and let her fly, Yankee Doodle do or die." The propagandistic films served mostly as recruitment tools, and as emotional tirades against the enemy, distastefully suggesting that heroic American involvement would bring about victory, and serve as a crusade to 'make the world safe for democracy'. Americans were persuaded to buy 'liberty' war bonds, often by movie stars, to help finance the war. ![]() The first war film to be documented was a one-reel, 90-second propagandist effort - the Vitagraph Company's fictitious Tearing Down the Spanish Flag (1898), produced in the year of the Spanish-American War. It portrayed a faked, reconstructed version of the seizure of a Spanish government installation in Havana by U.S. Army troops, the removal of the foreign flag, and its replacement by the Stars and Stripes. One of the first to show the necessity for preparedness during the Great War's European conflict, thereby demonstrating the propagandistic power of the new medium, was Vitagraph's silent film drama The Battle Cry of Peace (1915) with Norma Talmadge. It proposed the idea of what would happen if America was invaded on its own soil by a hostile European power and taken over, with an invasion of New York City. In 1918 in particular, many films documented the momentous sinking of the Lusitania in May of 1915 by a German U-boat and argued for US entrance into the war, such as Vitagraph's Over the Top (1918) (with its hero James Owen joining the British army after the Lusitania's sinking) and Winsor McKay's short animated film The Sinking of the Lusitania (1918). ![]() Indians are known for their risk aversion and lack of challenges. There are two things that can draw an image totally different from this presumption and prejudices. They are Cricket and Bollywood known to make mood and personality of every Indian lively. After work the most sought activities are either going to movies or watching cricket (repeat telecast of historical matches or live cricket matches if any event is there). Cricket news and Hindi Bollywood news have potential to move the whole nation. Energy levels are something people like to talk about when any cricket event is on the show and Bollywood movies always comes as a refreshing break for people looking for it. Hindi news tries to catch all the buzz of these two hot and entertaining topics. Starring Mel Gibson Jodie Foster Anton Yelchin Review: Depression is a difficult condition to explore in modern American cinema because no one wants to be around depressed people. We can see characters be sad, but only if they were happy before and will rally and be happy again by the time the movie ends. But an honest look at someone suffering from depression is rare and on that count The Beaver deserves acclaim. Unfortunately, despite the confidence of Kyle Killen’s script, director Jodie Foster never manages to bring a thoughtful vision the film. Even worse, no chemistry is developed between the characters, which is a serious issue when you’re making an intimate family drama. Individually, the actors do a terrific job, but the story never finds the emotional core that ties them together. ![]() The Red Star, Christian Gossett’s comic book series set in a futuristic, Soviet Russia-inspired fantasy world, was originally set to become a movie at Universal Pictures. ![]() From the first scene, Eternal seems like a made-for-Cinemax soft porn vampire movie, with one crucial exception. It has the cheesy music. It has the wooden acting by thespians whose names are not destined to top many A-movie marquees. It has the requisite soft focus camera work and hardcore bloodletting. What it's missing is the nudity. Aside from a few fleeting appearances by breasts and buns, there's not much flesh to be found in Eternal. There's plenty of sex, but everyone appears to be fond of doing the deed while wearing as much clothing as possible. First, let's establish why people watch an exploitation B-movie like this: it's for the guilty pleasure it offers. Lots of naked women are part of the package. By not delivering on this element of the genre, directors Wilhelm Liebenberg and Federico Sanchez dilute the experience, robbing us of part of the fun. They tease but don't deliver. There are unflattering names for people like this. And if you're going to cast second-tier actresses, why not hire ones who are willing to show a little? The logic behind the film's peekaboo attitude toward nudity baffles me. ![]() BIRTHDAY January 20, 1966 Bronx, New York City, NY RECENT CREDITS Murder in Fashion (FILM) Jan. 22, 2010 I Could Never Be Your Woman (FILM) Nov. 9, 2007 The Painting (FILM) Apr. 29, 2005 Clueless (TV) Dec. 29, 2004 Eve (TV) Nov. 24, 2003 |
