Review:

So, in my last review I mentioned that zombie flicks are getting a bit tired these days, and I still maintain that. But the prospect of a new Italian Zombie film is something I can still totally get behind. Eaters may not me the most original Zombie entry on the block — in fact, it’s largely a mashup of other genre flicks (see: Day of the Dead, Children of Men) — but it’s a film that’s not afraid to go places American, PC zombie films would fear to tread.

Review:

Being a huge fan of Charles Kaufman's classic film Mother's Day, the prospect of a remake had me a little on the worried side. Simply put, the flick is so lovably "out there" that trying to duplicate its special brand of insanity could just never work. Director Darren Lynn Bousman realized this as well, and as a result his re-imagining of the 1980 shocker is an altogether different beast, but rest assured its fangs are still razor sharp!

Review:

Depression is a difficult condition to explore in modern American cinema because no one wants to be around depressed people. We can see characters be sad, but only if they were happy before and will rally and be happy again by the time the movie ends. But an honest look at someone suffering from depression is rare and on that count The Beaver deserves acclaim. Unfortunately, despite the confidence of Kyle Killen’s script, director Jodie Foster never manages to bring a thoughtful vision the film. Even worse, no chemistry is developed between the characters, which is a serious issue when you’re making an intimate family drama. Individually, the actors do a terrific job, but the story never finds the emotional core that ties them together.

Review:

When five friends decide to take a trip out of town to see a concert, rookie pilot Sara (Lowndes) offers to fly them there in a rented plane. However a few minutes into their ill-fated flight a mechanical failure results in the plane stuck in a steady, unstoppable climb, a climb that sees the plane headed into a massive storm. With their fuel rapidly running out and emotional tensions inside the aircraft beginning to rise it seems nothing else can go wrong. But the problems in the plane prove to be the least of their worries. Outside, hidden in the ominous storm clouds, a mysterious supernatural force is lurking, a force which seems intent on destroying the plane and its passengers…

Review:

Seven teenagers from a small Australian country town called Wirrawee – Ellie, Corrie, Homer, Kevin, Lee, Robyn and Fiona – decide to pack a Landrover and go bush for the weekend. They don their packs and venture into the wild, little-visited, cliff-encircled gorge called Hell: flirting with members of the opposite sex, mucking about, and generally enjoying themselves so much that they think little of the fleet of planes that fly overhead one night.

While all of the above-mentioned may be fiction, sometimes it’s the truth that can lead to even more rewarding filmmaking. In Conviction, director Tony Goldwyn takes a compelling script from Pamela Gray, throws in some tremendous acting and churns out his best film yet. Although he'd only directed only three feature films prior to this one (A Walk on the Moon, Someone Like You…, The Last Kiss), he’s been heavily involved in television. Having done episodes in series including Dexter (one of the best shows on right now), Justified, Damages, Kidnapped, Law & Order and Without a Trace, directing a movie like Conviction makes sense.

Review:

This is one proof why I don’t understand the objective of wars in the world. I have seen many movies of this kind where war has really no justification. The Platoon, The Pianist, Enemy at the Gates, or Schindler’s List, the lost of civilian lives is just so unspeakable. 5 Days of War (5 Days of August) is no exception.

Review:

Being a self professed horror comedy hater it pisses me off that these damn things are winning me over. First we had the way better than it should have been Tucker and Dale Vs Evil charm my pants off, (Burn those damn photos of me, T & D!) and now we have Orcs once again putting a coochie eating grin right on my face. Dont get me wrong its not quite as good as T.A.D.V.E but it still had its own charm that coddled me just right. Take note directors, having some cool interesting characters goes a long way in making a movie enjoyable. Even if you have a crappy unoriginal story, but you like the characters, then that makes up for a lot.
